Two Cents Tuesday- Marco Polo

You guys…its been forever since I’ve had a Two Cents Tuesday post. Probably because of mom-life and entrepreneur life and wedding season taking up most months of the year. But I had a little app that I really wanted to share with everyone. This is for EVERYONE that feels like they need community but don’t have the means or time or location to get it. When I moved to Highland 2 years ago I was so excited to have more land, be near my family, and return to the town that I grew up in.  That being said, I did leave a very tight knit community of moms and friends that I had in the townhouse community I lived in.  It was a hard transition for me personally because I was also going through a difficult time after miscarrying and trying to get pregnant.  I didn’t know anyone my age in my neighborhood and most people worked during the day so I didn’t have a lot of mom friends close by.  This has changed over the 2 years that I’ve lived her and I’m super thankful for that.  But I really wish I would have known about this app back then!

Introducing MARCO POLO.  So what is this app?  It is like leaving video messages for your friends.  These friends can watch your videos live, can be recording a video for you at the same time you are recording one for them, or can watch it in 5 weeks if they want.  I love this app because it is SAFE, doesn’t take up room on your phone, you can re-watch, and also have groups. First, it is safe because you don’t need to hold down a button to leave a message and there is no time limit.  I just simply press a button, set it up while I’m washing dishes on my windowsill, hook it onto my phone carrier in my car, set it up against my computer screen, whatever and chat away.  I can leave a message for my friends that is 20 minutes (oh and I have…I can be a bit of a talker!) or 2 seconds.

Being a “stay” at home mom can be super isolating.  Maybe you can’t leave your house because it is nap time, maybe it is flu season, maybe its just freezing outside and there’s no where to go or you don’t have the money to do a ton of fun things that you may want to.  Whatever the reason, you may not know that stay at home moms struggle with feeling lonely and not having adult interaction.

Being an entrepreneur can also be super hard!  You are making all of the decisions yourself, your computer becomes your best friend and you always feel the pressure of doing the next best thing out there for your business.  We need community you guys!  We were meant for community!  And sometimes its pretty hard to get when you’re a mom and an entrepreneur.   My husband teases me but this app not only connects me to my friends that I don’t get to see that often, but also family that lives far away, friends that are like family that live far away and makes me feel like I’m not alone.  It has been a lifesaver this winter and I def recommend it if you feel like you need people to talk to but circumstances don’t allow you to catch up as much as you’d like to!

Just grabbed these screenshots to give you an idea of what its like.  You can click on the pictures at the bottom to watch their video.  You would press start (screenshot on the left) if you want to record a new video.  You can respond (once you’ve recorded 50 videos) to people’s videos by pressing a thumbs up, heart, happy face or prayer hands emojis.  I obviously didn’t want to show you all anyone else’s videos, but you get the idea.  You can rewatch (and more importantly delete) your own video, fast forward or rewind the video.  I highly recommend you download this FREE app!
