In February, we decided it was time to take Paisley and Joy to Disney World. For those of you that don’t know, Aaron is from Florida and grew up going to Disney all the time. It was part of his normal life and I would say was a pretty big part of his childhood. He has been wanting to take Paisley for a while, but I wanted to wait until she could really appreciate it. We were down in Florida already to see Aaron’s mom and for Joy to meet some of Aaron’s family for the first time. Joy got to meet her great grandfather and great grandmother! It was pretty special. Both my biological grandfathers died before I was born, so it blows my mind that Joy and Paisley get to know their great grandparents. I know a lot of people take a whole week to experience Disney, but since we were already down there we decided to get the most bang for our buck and go for two days. Day one we drove from Aaron’s mom’s house to Orlando, Disney Springs. We made Paisley an appointment at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique as recommended by many of our friends. There is another BBB in the Magic Kingdom but we didn’t want to spend valuable park time at the BBB. We opted to spend day one at the Disney Springs location, which I thought was a great choice.
Word to the wise (and cheap): Go with the basic package! Bring your own shoes, tiara if you want, dress, etc. They up charge you for all the things, so if you can save money using the things you already have, it really doesn’t take away from the experience at all. Paisley started in a room where the Fairy God Mother appeared to her and told her to get ready. Paisley was so intrigued and excited. She then was walked over to her very own station to get all dolled up.
They let Paisley choose her own hair style. She actually chose one with two braids coming from the front and meeting in the back with purple and blue hair tied together. Her “fairy God mother” persuaded her to do this one instead. Honestly I hated the pink hair, but she thought it would be easier for me to take out because it was like a hair tie around the bun than the other hairstyle that had fake hair in the braids. Paisley got her nails done and her make up done too! I was fine with it…it was a special occasion although I know some parents don’t love their babies putting on make-up. We did have to have a talk about make-up afterwards though. She was always trying to put it on herself and even used marker on her eyelids one time following this experience. They put these little jewel stickers on her cheek. She made Paisley laugh by putting the sticker in wrong place! The big reveal…P seeing herself for the first time! They go to the next room over to get their picture in front of the carriage and really feel like a princess. They also send you home with your own bag full of goodies: the nail polish, the make up, hair brush and comb used, the other jewel stickers and shampoo/soap to remove it later. Paisley was in heaven!! She absolutely loved getting dressed up and feeling like a princess. I don’t know how but I managed to get a very girly girl. She loves feeling fancy and everyone looking at her and telling her how pretty she is. The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique had a princess parade and all the little girls walked around Disney Springs. All the guests were waving and saying “Oh look at the princesses” it made Paisley feel like a star. She was truly on cloud 9. Afterwards they got to ride on the carousel for free as a prize for participating!Disney Springs is great too because it has a ton of shops and Disney stuff all around. No joke, Paisley kissed the Cinderella and Aurora statues. She was so happy!Joy was a trooper for skipping her nap time and being in the heat. Love this baby!We opted to save money and stay at a resort close by. No joke, we got a condo for less than $100 a night and it had 2 rooms, a kitchen, and dining area. It was a ten minute drive to Disney world and it was gorgeous too…it had a pool and playground and if we were staying longer we definitely would have utilized it. Once we got there, I asked Paisley if I could take some pictures of her (and yes I made her take off the pink hair). Believe it or not, I don’t really take that many pictures of my kids. When you’re a photographer you are so use to working that when you are home you don’t really want to work, even if it is fun! It was nice to be in Florida for the week and to have a break. I loved getting to take pictures of my sweet little Belle princess.
In case you were wondering, my amazing mother in law made this Belle dress for Paisley. It is AMAZING in person and Paisley is obsessed (clearly). I know that she got a lot of the fabric from an old prom dress. I loved that the color was a soft yellow and not bright gold that many of the Belle dresses are. Paisley had a Belle birthday party this year so Mimi made it for that (and also made Joy a matching one). We have gotten a ton of use out of it! Next week I will share about when we actually went to Disney World, Magic Kingdom. I have some tips that I think will be helpful!
